What causes all of the delicious and sometimes not-so-delicious flavors and aromas in our glass?⁣
⁣
🦠There are tons of chemical compounds in winemaking that lead to a lot of the aromas and flavors we pull from wine. ⁣
⁣
Usually, fermentation transforms these compounds into wonderful FLAVORS🙂. However, some compounds (or high concentrations of certain compounds) can cause very unpleasant aromas and flavors. These are termed FLAWS😐 when they are in small amounts, and FAULTS☹️ when they are undrinkable.⁣
⁣

I’m not ‘comin in hot’ with this one! Guess I should have remembered that fresher fruit notes should push me to France not California. Time to line up Grenache and Zin again!

We’re moving into a lower alcohol mindset, but these varieties always have the *potential* for high ABV.

I don’t know about you but I can feel the burn in my nostrils with these wines sometimes!

Did it feel extra long to you too?!?

Still, I feel like I’m just getting into the new year. 🐢 For the first year (in many) I haven’t hit the ground super hard on January 1st and it’s been REALLY in alignment for what I want out of this year!

This month I’ve been implementing an entirely new work flow (will be sharing through February as I like to experiment a lot before making things concrete), creating systems for content, diving hard into D2 study and pushing myself to write a ton (I have to be honest, D2 is not a fun one for me), …and embracing the season ...the cold, bitter, grey one (and the calm season I’m in personally) ⛅️

📈 Every year outside of this one I’ve created a wine trends prediction post. I didn’t this year. My only excuse is that it didn’t fully resonate as something I wanted to declare …more as something I wanted to have a conversation about.

If you do a simple Google search there are plenty out there. Most bogged down with health related stuff.

Here is the thing. What I’m curious about are insights into trending styles and regions.
Where are people going to travel for wine?
What’s going to show up on wine lists and in wine shops?
What varieties are going to ‘put on a show’?

Tell me what you think!
⚠️ The one rule here is you can’t relate it to health. We already know alllll about that one.

I’ll start with a few of my thoughts…

📦 more niche wine clubs, subscriptions, and shops (region focused, style focused)
🇵🇹 more Portuguese wine
🥂 more alternative sparkling (and people opting for sparkling)
🇺🇸 more US regions rising
🍹 more casual glassware and vessels for drinking
