Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be a student or can this just be done as a fun monthly activity?
A majority of our members are students in some capacity, however all tastings are built forย bothย students and enthusiasts!
Open Labelย lineups are especially geared for all. Enthusiasts benefit from learning more about varieties and regions, and students can practice and build on what they know!
Theย Blind Tastingย format was created with students in mind. This group is ideal if you are studying for a blind tasting portion of an exam (as it mimics an in-person blind tasting group and follows an exam format). Itโs also open to those who want to sit in and learn the ins and outs of blind tastingโฆor just get started! We have all levels present, and itโs incredibly welcoming!
Where do the wines come from?
Open Label lineups have wine lists with links to accessible online shops like wine.com (where you can purchase the bottles immediately). Many of these producers can also be found at Total Wine. You can alternatively print the list and bring it to your favorite wine shop to pick out the bottles yourself (or ask a retailer to help you choose). There are suggestions listed for each region, and while you donโt have to pick those exact wines, it’s best to choose a bottle from the specific Country/Region listed.
Blind Tasting lineups are kits with three pre-wrapped wines sent through partnered retailers. These are shipped to most US states. We are currently unable to ship wines to Utah & Mississippi as well as outside the US purely due to laws. When you view the upcoming blind tasting event, you will see a link to order the related kit for that month!
*Blind Tasting with a group doesnโt work well unless everyone is able to compare the same (or very similar) bottles, so this group doesnโt have a self-purchase option.ย Youโll get access to the call and materials when you purchase the Blind Tasting Kit.
Do I have to buy the wine?
Open Label:ย Nope! You donโt have to have any wine for this call. That said, tasting along with the videos will help you really learn the wines that much more quickly. If you do want to taste along, youโll receive a purchase link to grab them super easily, or you can feel free to support your local wine shop and pick them up yourself!
Blind Tasting: Yes. To JOIN a blind tasting call, you do need to have the accompanying wines. The experience of blind tasting really only works well when everyone is discussing the same wines. Youโll be provided options to get your wine kits delivered, wrapped, and ready for you!ย
Canโt join live or prefer not to order a kit? Youโll still get access to the post-call highlights and tasting discussion in the community!
How much does membership cost?
You have two options:
Monthly: $26
Annually: $250 (Save $62)
You will be able to choose which option you prefer when you start your free 30 day trial. Weโll send you a reminder before your trial ends. You will not be charged until your trial period has concluded.
+ Cost of Wine: Outside of your membership, how much you spend on wine is up to you! You do not have to purchase wines to have access to a majority of our Tasting Group features every month. (see the cost of wine tab below)ย
How many wines are included?
We base each tasting on aย three bottleย lineup!
Forย Open Labelย you can order as many bottles as youโd like! The best experience would be to grab a bottle for each variety/region listed on the wine list (wines 1-3). Sometimes the wine lists include โoptional winesโ if you want to taste more than 3. I would suggest tasting along with at least 2 wines, so you can compare them!
Blind Tastingย kits include 3 bottles (can be any assortment of whites/reds based on our theme).
How much do the wines cost?
Forย Open Labelย we keep a $25/bottle average! (Some may be over or under.) If you order all three wines, youโll usually pay anywhere from $75-$100.ย If you want to spend less, you can choose to purchase bottles on your own, purchase just one bottle, or hop on the call without the wines to learn!ย You are not required to purchase wines for this callโฆalthough itโs more fun and better practice if you do!
Forย Blind Tasting,ย wine kitsย from our local supplier and alternate suppliers are around $135 (shipping included).
Can I join the calls with a group?
Absolutely! Invite your friends to share in the call experience! Many participants team up, split the cost of wine, and join the calls together for shared tasting!ย
Just note that the community space requires an individual sign-up, so if your friends want full access to all Tasting Group resources, materials, and discussions, theyโll need to sign up for their own monthly or yearly plan.
Can I pause or cancel my membership?
You have full control over your membership at all times. You can easily manage, modify, or cancel your subscription whenever you need.
Youโll always receive an email reminder one week before your renewal date, so nothing ever catches you by surprise.
If you decide to cancel, youโre welcome to rejoin anytime. (Just note that free trials canโt be reused, so billing will begin immediately upon rejoining.)
If you have any questions or need help adjusting your membership, please reach out! We’re happy to help!
Can I join if I live outside of the USA?
There are modified options available for members outside the United States.
At this time, Blind Tasting live calls and accompanying materials are only open to U.S. participants, as we canโt yet ship kits internationally, but stay tuned!
Open Label calls, recordings, and materials are fully accessible worldwide. (Note that everything is in English).
International members are always welcome! Just reach out and let us know where youโre joining from so we can do our best to tailor the best experience for you!
